Note: This is another one of my fabulous business ideas, recorded before I forget that I thought it.
Before I dive in, I'd like to record a previous business idea. It came about because of the tool Peter commissioned that enables the creation of non-linear stories, cases, etc. The business idea was to update previously published educational materials into new formats more relevant to today's learners. So, instead of having to re-create and rewrite materials, companies would pay us to give things they've already created a facelift so they can continue to appeal to learners. Being involved in just one experience like that, I've learned it may be more difficult than it sounds. But, I still think it's a killer idea.
The idea for today was to create a company that provides evaluation training and support to schools and school districts. One of the big issues in education today is appropriate evaluation of teaching. It's not an easy thing to do, so most schools do it out of obligation but don't necessarily do it well. So, this company would work with schools and districts to establish goals and then create evaluation procedures to match those goals. They would actually train administrators or those charged with teacher evaluation in how to do it properly! The obvious results of this would be an increase in teacher retention and quality.
In such a company, employees would be Evaluation Experts assigned to specific clients. Help would be available during and slightly beyond school hours. Part of the job would be keeping current on the evaluation field through wide reading, which employees would be compensated for. Employees would be recognized and celebrated for sterling service to clients.
Upon helping schools conquer the evaluation arena, a similar company would be helpful to coach educators and administrators in quality assessment, following a similar business model.
